Transition vs AI Endurance (2026): Which AI Triathlon Coach Fits You?

AI Endurance models your physiology from years of data; Transition builds a complete swim, bike, run and strength plan you can rewrite by chatting. Here is how they compare on swim, strength, devices, nutrition and price.

Short answer: AI Endurance and Transition are both AI coaches with chat that can edit your workouts, daily nutrition targets, and automatic workout sync to your devices. Choose AI Endurance if you have years of power and heart-rate data and want a model that optimizes your plan for predicted race-day performance. Choose Transition if swim and strength sessions matter to you, you want a native Apple Watch app, in-app smart-trainer control or video technique analysis, or you want the lower annual price.

Disclosure: I build Transition. Every AI Endurance detail below was checked against AI Endurance's own website, pricing page, FAQ, documentation and App Store listing on October 22, 2026. If something has changed, email [email protected] and I'll correct it.

Two different ideas of an AI coach

AI Endurance is built around a model of you. Its "Digital Twin" is a neural network trained on your own workouts, and the plan is re-optimized as you train to maximize your predicted performance on race day. It also tracks durability, DFA alpha 1 and a recovery model fitted to your HRV and resting heart rate. To do that well, it needs data: its FAQ asks for activities with at least power and heart-rate data, and its race predictions need around 100 runs with GPS or rides with power.

Transition is built around a coaching conversation. It builds a periodized plan (base, build, peak, taper) from your race, goal time, weekly hours and preferred days, and you adjust it by talking to the coach. It works from day one without a long data history, and it gets more specific as your workouts sync.

Swim and strength

For triathletes, this is the clearest difference. AI Endurance's FAQ says swim workouts are not AI-generated; they come from a database written by an experienced coach. Strength can be logged, but we found no strength programming.

Transition generates swim sessions as part of your plan, sets swim zones from your CSS, and includes strength sessions in the week, sized around your swim, bike and run load.

AI Endurance's AI plans the bike and run. Transition: swim, bike, run and strength all planned. AI Endurance: swim from a coach-written library, bike and run planned by its AI, strength logged with no plan found.

Devices and indoor training

AI Endurance has one of the widest sync lists of any training app: Garmin, Suunto, COROS, Wahoo, Hammerhead, Zwift, ROUVY, TrainerDay and more. Apple Watch works through the third-party Watchletic app.

Transition covers Garmin, Wahoo, COROS, Suunto, Zwift and ROUVY, runs workouts on Apple Watch through its own watch app, and controls Bluetooth smart trainers in ERG mode directly from the phone, including a ramp test that sets your FTP.

Chat, nutrition and AI assistants

Both apps have a chat coach that can change your workouts, both give daily calorie and macro targets, and both can connect your training to ChatGPT or Claude. AI Endurance lets subscribers pick the model behind its chat and adds AI meal plans. Transition adds fueling guidance before, during and after each workout, food logging, and video analysis of your swim stroke, bike position and run form.

Price

AI Endurance is $20 a month or $200 a year in the US, with a 14-day trial that needs no payment details. Transition is $19 a month or $139 a year, with a 30-day free trial. On annual plans, Transition costs $61 less per year.

Choose AI Endurance if

  • You have years of power, heart-rate and GPS data and want a model built on it.
  • You care about durability, DFA alpha 1 and predicted race performance.
  • You use a Hammerhead head unit, TrainerDay or another platform on its sync list.
  • You train mainly for running or cycling and log strength yourself.

Choose Transition if

  • You want swim and strength sessions planned, not picked from a library or logged by you.
  • You are newer to structured training or don't have much power data yet.
  • You use Apple Watch, or want your smart trainer controlled from the app.
  • You want video technique feedback and workout fueling guidance in the same app.

FAQ

Is AI Endurance good for triathlon?

It supports triathlon up to Ironman distance and adapts the plan as you train. Its strengths are on the bike and run, where it models your physiology from your data. Swim workouts come from a coach-written database rather than its AI, and it does not program strength.

Does AI Endurance need a power meter?

Its FAQ says it needs some activities with at least power and heart-rate data, and its race prediction needs about 100 runs with GPS or rides with power. Transition works without a power meter and uses one when you have it.

Which is cheaper, AI Endurance or Transition?

Transition: $19 a month or $139 a year. AI Endurance: $20 a month or $200 a year.

Can both connect to ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. AI Endurance has a ChatGPT app and an MCP server. Transition has an MCP server at mcp.transition.fun that lets Claude and other assistants read your plan and adapt it.

Transition's mission is to build a world-class triathlon coach, and I'll keep improving it until it is. I'm constantly evaluating newer models, techniques and architectures, and I build the app to be fast, responsive and simple to use, so managing your training takes as little of your time and effort as possible. — Alex Wormuth, founder
