Short answer: TriDot and Transition both build triathlon plans that adapt as you train. Choose TriDot if you want its long-established methodology, race-day pace and split predictions, environmental normalization, or the option of a dedicated human coach on the same platform. Choose Transition if you want one price with everything included, an AI coach that changes your plan when you ask, and nutrition targets, smart-trainer control and video technique analysis without moving up tiers.
Disclosure: I build Transition. Every TriDot detail below was checked against TriDot's own website, pricing page, help articles and App Store listing on October 22, 2026. If something has changed, email [email protected] and I'll correct it.

Pricing is the biggest practical difference
TriDot sells four tiers, billed monthly. Lifestyle ($14.99) covers one sprint or Olympic race with weekly training optimization. Essentials ($39) adds up to three races of any distance, RaceX predictions and swim form analysis. Complete ($99) adds unlimited races and strength sessions. Premium Coached adds a dedicated human coach at a typical $249 a month.
Transition has one plan at $19 a month or $139 a year in the US, with every feature included. For an athlete training for a 70.3 or Ironman, the comparison is TriDot Essentials at $468 a year, or Complete at $1,188 a year if you want strength sessions, against $139 a year for Transition.

How each plan adapts
TriDot's FitLogic engine analyzes each logged workout (pace, power and heart-rate response) and adjusts upcoming intensity, volume and timing. Its 2026 app rebuild added real schedule flexibility: you can drag sessions, move the long workout to any day, and change a session's duration, intensity or location. Its EnviroNorm feature normalizes for heat, altitude and wind.
Transition's AI coach builds a periodized plan from your race, goal time, weekly hours and preferred days. When you miss key sessions, the app proposes an adjusted plan you accept with one tap, and you can ask the coach to move, swap, add or remove workouts in plain language. It also proposes updated FTP, threshold pace or swim CSS after test workouts, and every future workout recalculates from your current numbers.
Assistant vs coach
In 2026 TriDot added an in-app assistant. TriDot's examples are questions and analysis: review a workout, compare this week's intervals with last week's, find your best 20-minute effort, prepare for a coach call.
Transition's coach answers those kinds of questions too, and it also edits the plan itself. "I'm traveling Thursday to Sunday with no bike" becomes a rebuilt week in the same conversation.
Devices, indoor training and fueling
TriDot sends sessions to compatible devices, including Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS and Wahoo, and can send bike and run sessions to Zwift automatically. It does not control smart trainers from its own app, and nutrition comes through the separate Fuelin subscription.
Transition sends structured workouts to Garmin, Wahoo, COROS, Suunto, Zwift and ROUVY, runs them on Apple Watch through its own watch app, and controls Bluetooth smart trainers in ERG mode from the phone. Daily calorie and macro targets, workout fueling and food logging are built in.
Where TriDot is strong
TriDot has more than 20 years of methodology behind it and data from tens of millions of workouts. RaceX turns your training into race-day pace and split predictions, EnviroNorm adjusts targets for conditions, and the Premium Coached tier lets you add a dedicated human coach without leaving the platform. TriDot is also the official training platform of supertri.
Choose TriDot if
- You want the option to add a dedicated human coach on the same platform.
- Race-day pace and split predictions (RaceX) are central to how you race.
- You train in varied heat or altitude and want targets normalized for it.
- You race supertri or follow TriDot's coaching curriculum.
Choose Transition if
- You want every feature, including iron-distance races and strength, at one price ($139 a year).
- You want a coach that changes the plan when you describe what happened, not only answers questions.
- You want nutrition targets, smart-trainer control and video technique feedback in the same app.
- You use Suunto, ROUVY or Apple Watch and want workouts sent there.

Transition's mission is to build a world-class triathlon coach, and I'll keep improving it until it is. I'm constantly evaluating newer models, techniques and architectures, and I build the app to be fast, responsive and simple to use, so managing your training takes as little of your time and effort as possible. — Alex Wormuth, founder
