Short answer: MOTTIV and Transition both build a personal plan for your race, from sprint triathlon to Ironman. Choose MOTTIV if you want a free plan for one race, programs designed by well-known coaches, or a strong strength and mobility library. Choose Transition if you want an AI coach that changes your plan when you ask, workouts sent directly to more devices, and nutrition targets, smart-trainer control and video technique analysis, at a lower annual price than MOTTIV Premium.
Disclosure: I build Transition. Every MOTTIV detail below was checked against MOTTIV's own website, pricing page, help center and App Store listing on October 22, 2026. If something has changed, email [email protected] and I'll correct it.

Coach-designed programs vs an AI coach
MOTTIV's plans are "designed for you by experienced coaches", with training from coaches including Ryan Hall, Taren Gesell and Dylan Johnson. You enter your race dates, current ability and weekly schedule, and the app generates your plan in about a minute. MOTTIV does not describe its plans as AI-generated.
Transition's plan is generated by its AI coach, and you change it by talking to the coach. Tell it you are sick for three days or traveling without a bike, and it rewrites the affected workouts. When you miss key sessions, the app proposes an adjusted plan that you accept with one tap.
Devices
MOTTIV connects directly to Garmin, sending today's workout and the next two days, and imports from Garmin and Wahoo. COROS, Polar, Suunto and Apple Watch, and Zwift, work through a TrainingPeaks connection. Device connections are a Premium feature.
Transition sends structured workouts directly to Garmin, Wahoo, COROS, Suunto, Zwift and ROUVY, runs them on Apple Watch through its own watch app, and controls Bluetooth smart trainers in ERG mode from the phone.

Where MOTTIV is strong
MOTTIV's free tier is generous: a personalized plan for one race at a time, guided strength and mobility, workout nutrition recommendations and race strategy planning, at no cost. Its strength and mobility programming is a real focus, and its 30-day money-back guarantee lowers the risk of paying. If you want to train for one race without paying anything, MOTTIV's free plan is worth a look.
Price
MOTTIV Premium is $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, adds unlimited races and device connections, and comes with a 14-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Transition is $19 a month or $139 a year in the US, with a 30-day free trial. On annual plans, Transition costs $40.99 less per year.
